3,2,1... Frankie Go Boom (2011)
Writer & Director: Jordan Roberts

Theatrical release: October 12, 2012
DVD and BlueRay release: May 12, 2013
Frank Bartlett has been tortured, embarrassed, and humiliated by his brother Bruce -- usually on film -- his entire life. Now that Bruce is finally off drugs and has turned his life around, things should be different. They are not.
“While trying to remove a compromising video from the internet, the two brothers (Charlie Hunnam and Chris O'Dowd) visit a brilliant computer hacker named Phil (Ron Perlman). But when they get there, they discover that Phil is now Phyllis... and she has no intention of helping them for free.
For his role as Phyllis, a transsexual, Ron shaved his arms, legs, chest and had a pedicure and manicure. Ron was offered another role as well, but chose to play Phyllis because he reckoned 'she' would be the ugliest woman you'll ever see in your life.
Ron's comments during an interview with MovieWeb
"I'm really excited about this project I did with Charlie Hunnam in the off-season called 'Frankie Go Boom.' Hopefully it's going to be playing at the Sundance Film Festival. It's the funniest script I've read in 30 years. I play a character who used to be called Phil, and is now Phyllis. He's not just a transsexual, he's a complete transgender. You'll see me be the ugliest broad you've ever seen, in the history of womanhood. I can't wait to see it. I have not seen it yet, but it's quite funny. Charlie is the lead, he plays Frankie. If I only play a woman once in my life, it will be in this one."
Extracts from Reviews:
"...computer hacking courtesy of one of Bruce's old cellmates, Phil, who is now Phyllis, played by Ron Perlman as a cigar-smoking battleship in a dress who is, of course, nonetheless every inch a lady." - indiwire.com
"The biggest draw for frankie go boom is Ron Perlman in drag." - flixit.com
"As if the promise of a film starring Chris O’Dowd and Lizzy Caplan is not reason enough to watch frankie goes boom, there is an added bonus of witnessing Ron Perlman portray a transgender woman named Phyllis. Sure, the Phyllis character feels a bit cartoonish, but how often do you get to see Hellboy donning full drag?"
"In contrast, Perlman (Hunnam's co-star on "Sons of Anarchy") plays it subtler and sweeter as Phyliss, a computer hacker who's anxious about re-entering the dating pool after her sex change. Indeed, Perlman is all the more hilarious for playing the role, for want of a better term, straight" - variety.com
"Ron Perlman gives a show-stopping performance in this movie! He plays Bruce’s former prison roommate Phil, or as he/she is now known, Phyllis. I’ve gotta tell ya, seeing Ron Perlman in drag is not something you can actually prepare yourself for, especially when Mr. Perlman is sitting right next to you! I’m not kidding! Sitting right to my right, Hellboy himself, Mr. Ron Perlman! Trust me, after you see the movie you’ll understand just how weird of a life experience that was for me." - darbyssecretstach.com
